I graduated as a sociologist and educator (MA in Sociology and MA in Pedagogy) in 2000 at Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences, Budapest. In 2002 I received an MPhil Degree in Educational Research at the University of Cambridge, U.K. After that I began to work for the National Institute for Public Education as a researcher. I was working as an education specialist and researcher in the field of equity and access to quality education. I have led and participated in various national and international qualitative and quantitative research projects focusing on the school success of Roma, socially disadvantaged, immigrants and of pupils with special educational needs. Since 2002 I have had a possibility to monitor and evaluate the process of integration of Roma pupils into mainstream education, to collect the best practices of local solutions of desegregation. Between 2007 and 2009 I was working as an education expert in the Cluster on ?Access and Social Inclusion in Lifelong Learning? at the European Commission, DG Education and Culture. Now I am participating in a PhD-programme of Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences, Budapest.

I graduated as an economist at the Karl Marx University of Economics in Budapest in 1985. I took my Ph. D. in Sociology in 2005 at the Corvinus University in Budapest. I worked at the Hungarian Poll Institute from 1987 to 1990. Since 1990 I have been a researcher at the National Institute for Public Education (changed from 2007 into Hungarian Institute for Educational Research and Development). From 2004 to 2007 I was the director of the Research Centre of the Institute.
My main interest is in empirical (both quantitative and qualitative) research in the field of school effectiveness, that of students? progress and career aspirations and the transition process from school to work. I am the co-editor (with Gábor Halász) of the regularly published Hungarian Report on Public Education, which is widely used at the universities and among decision-makers, as well. I took part in several international projects financed by OECD (e.g. Transition from school to work, Schooling for tomorrow) and by the European Union (representing Hungary in the LLL stakeholder group set up by the Commission, or working as an expert in a peering group in Serbia managed by the European Training Fund). In 2007 I am delegated by the Education Committee of the Parliament into the ?Roundtable on Public Education?, an inititative launched by the prime minister.
From the end of 2007 I am the head of the newly established TARKI-TUDOK Knowledgemanagement and Education Research Centre Inc.

Eva Holb graduated as an economist. Her main areas of interest are the interconnection of education and social mobility, assessment of students’ achievement, and the relationship between students’ achievement and socio-economic status and school segregation.
